Activities and Outreach
Patriotism
Homes for the Brave Chapter members collect donations for this veterans assistance program. The chapter has a project to provide bed linens for the new home for women veterans. Homes for the Brave is a transitional residential facility in Bridgeport for 40 homeless veterans.
Veterans Day Reception
Memorial Day Parade Chapter members design a parade float and march in the Fairfield town parade.
Independence Day Celebration and Reception The chapter participates in the celebration organized by the United Veterans Organization and hosts the reception after the ceremony on the Town Green.
DAR Good Citizenship Awards These awards are given to eighth graders who are chosen for their good character.
Children of the American Revolution The chapter supports the Thaddeus Burr Society of the C.A.R.. Reorganized in 2007, the Society holds meetings and activities throughout the year for children up to the age of 21. The Society participates in volunteering and service projects, learns about American history and patriotic values, and engages in fundraising for veterans and children's charities. Thaddeus Burr Society Revolutionary Readings has won Best Newsletter awards from the C.S.C.A.R. in 2008, 2009, and 2010. The Society has also won state awards for Conservation, C.A.R./DAR Relations, Museum Fund, Kids Helping Kids, and Veterans. The Society has also received national recognition from N.S.C.A.R. for participation in Veterans programs. See Links for state and national websites.
Historic Preservation
DAR History Essay Contest Awards are given to middle school and home schooled students who write a short essay on a historic topic designated by the NSDAR. Our 2010 8th grade essay winner received a CTDAR award.
Constitution Week (September 17-23) The chapter receives a proclamation from the town and has displays in the library.
Cemetery Projects Chapter members participate in various restoration projects at Greenfield Hill Cemetery.
Franklin Mile Marker The chapter maintains the one of three Franklin Mile Markers.
Powder House In 2010, the Powder House Restoration Project received the 3rd place award from NSDAR. The Powder House is believed to be the only existing one in Connecticut from the War of 1812.
Education
DAR Good Citizen Award The chapter gives the DAR Good Citizen Award to outstanding high school seniors.
Community Outreach
Christmas Tree Lighting Open House and Reception The Fairfield community is welcomed into the chapter house for refreshments hosted by the members.
Fall Festival The chapter holds an open house with tours of the building during the Fairfield Museum and History Center's Fall Festival.
